Christmas Food Hacks for Time Poor People on a Budget

By Zoe Taylor

So you’ve been invited to a Christmas party and you have to bring a plate of food. But between studying, working and daily tasks and chores, it seems nearly impossible to prepare anything. Not to worry, we’ve got some fantastic cheap and easy Christmas food ‘hacks’ that will take you hardly any time.

Make-Shift Ginger Bread Houses/Tents
These are tasty and incredibly easy to make. All you need is a fresh icing mixture (icing sugar + butter + boiling water + vanilla essence, all to taste), some waffle cones and decorations of your choice! Dip the waffle cones in the icing mixture and stick the decorations (whether they be M&Ms, hundreds & thousands or gummy bears) all over the icing mixture and voila! Some tasty “ginger bread” houses!

Santa Strawberries
These are such an innovative idea – all you need is cream cheese, sugar, vanilla essence and strawberries! You can find the recipe here.

Alternatively, there are the ver-so-popular chocolate strawberries – just melt some chocolate in the microwave and dip some strawberries in it, then place them in the fridge to set!

Candy Christmas Lights
Now, these are really cool. And they’re really easy to make too! All you need are some almond M&Ms and some small gummy lollies! Check out the directions here.

Nutella Brownie Bites
These delicious treats need only 3 ingredients! Check out the recipe here.

 Fudge Crinkles
These are mouth waterers, and again they only need 3 ingredients! And you can easily add red and green M&Ms or Smarties to give them a Christmas look. Check them out here!

Candy Cane Marshmallow Pops
These are super easy to make, and incorporate a traditional Christmas treat! Check the recipe out  here!

There are plenty of other easy Christmas foods out there, but these were our favourites! We hope you enjoy them!
