What is Google Classroom?

Google Classroom is “a free suite of productivity tools including Gmail, Drive and Docs”. Available to anyone with Google Apps for education, the suite is designed to help teachers save time, stay organised and enhance their communication with students.

It is easy to set up, as well as affordable and completely secure.

What does it mean for Online Education?

As we’ve mentioned in previous posts, online education continues to grow and improve every single day, just like technology and the Internet. The more technology and the Internet evolves, the more online education does too.

Google Classroom, if utilised by online students and educators, is going to save time because it assists in enhancing the paperless workflow of online learning, and teachers are able to create, review and grade assessments quickly and all in the one place.

Organisation is a given – all class materials are automatically filed into the appropriate folders on Google Drive. So everything is always where it should be.

Most importantly, Google Classroom enhances communication between teacher and students, and students and their peers. So once again, the idea that online education is ruining communication is completely false. The Classroom allows teachers to send announcements to their students and start class discussions online in an instant, and students can share resources and answer each others questions within the stream.

So if you’re worried that studying online is going to negatively impact your organisation and communication skills, don’t. The introduction of Google Classroom is further proof that the constant progress of modern technology makes studying online a perfect choice if you have a busy lifestyle and are looking to up skill.
